Sadly Stuart Russell died a few days ago. He collapsed after swimming and despite the emergency services attempts they couldn’t revive him.

He was a member from the time in the early 1990’s when he built Momad. At one time he was responsible for international relationships and took his boat to France several times to join the French steamboats on the Rance, the Somme and the Canal du Nivernais. He also took the boat to Germany, Sweden and Scotland. At home the boat(s) were based on the Avon at Sankey Marine. Stuart ran several rallies from there.

Waverley, the World’s last seagoing paddle steamer, has been awarded the prestigious status of National Flagship of the Year by National Historic Ships UK. The award recognises the breadth and geographic coverage of Waverley’s sailings in addition to the extended sailing programme planned for 2024 with a record beating seventy ports and piers included within this year’s cruising itinerary.

A request below from the organiser of the Thames Traditional Rally. Registration for this event is on the Events Page of the Website.

    "Dear SBA member

Despite being outnumbered by other groups at the Thames Traditional Boat Festival, SBA members have never failed to show some truly stunning entries that add so much to the waterside scene.

While we have no difficulty filling all the space at our disposal usefully before the closing date, it would be wonderful to see more SBA members attend. Along with punts, steam craft entries have now been very low for some time.

Our website may be found at: www.tradboatfestival.com

I would be happy to personally answer any questions that you may have: adam@thetoops.com

    With all best wishes"
