A gathering of the (steamboat) clans - Loch Katrine

  • 16 Sep 2017

  • Loch Katrine

Steamers were the only boats allowed on Loch Katrine. Today, in addition, there are about half a dozen gas outboard powered boats for fishing, so we have a big expanse of water virtually to ourselves!

This event is designed to add colour' to the event in September, but we don't want to formalise things by calling it "a rally".

Any boat on the loch MUST be insured.

The Plan:

Saturday 16th visitors are welcomed, helped to launch and can explore the east end of the loch.

Sunday 17th boats divided into 2 flotillas. One stays close to the east end to be seen by the public, the other flotilla can explore further afield, or abandon their boat(s) to explore the area.

Monday 18th flotillas reverse roles.

Tuesday 19th a steam to Stronnachlachar at the other end of the loch.

Accommodation: the 'Loch Achray Hotel' owned by Lochs and Glens is closest. Aberfoyle and Callander have plenty of holiday accommodation.
